Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published (except as part of a thesis or lecture note, report, or in the form of an abstract), nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission has been approved by all co-authors as well as by the authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out
    Written permission of copyright holders was obtained by the authors for material used from other copyright sources
  3. Authors Guidelines have been carefully read and applied in the submitted manuscript.
  4. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, Open Document Format for Office Applications, RTF document file format.
  5. The first page cointains a cover letter which includes the title of the manuscript, the authors' addresses at the time the research was conducted and present address(es) and the name and complete mailing address and email of the corresponding author to whom proofs should be sent. Also, include names, addresses and e-mails of potential referees.
  6. The second page includes the title of the manuscript, the running head, the abstract, and the keywords in that order.
  7. The text must adhere to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  8. The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
  9. Prefered place in the text of illustrations, figures, and tables are indicated using the following notations in red letters: "place illustration X here" or "place figure X here" or "place table X here"
  10. Tables are in Word or Excel format. Graphs are in the final format (without legend) in Excel format, or TIFF, or PICT or good quality JPEG format. Images and other figures are in TIFF, or PICT or good quality JPEG format.
  11. If the work involves the use of animal or human subjects, the author should ensure that the manuscript contains a statement that all procedures were performed in compliance with relevant laws (please provide law identification) and institutional guidelines and that the appropriate institutional committee(s) have approved them.
  12. Authors agree with self-archiving at the Portuguese Wildlife Society Electronic Repository.
  13. Copyright for articles published in this journal is retained by the authors, under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 Portugal license.
