The Wildlife Biology in Practice (http://www.socpvs.org/journals) invites you to submit original manuscripts to be published in a special issue focusing on Iberian lynx ecology and conservation.

This WBP special issue will be co-edited by Pedro Sarmento (CESAM and Biology Department of Aveiro University) and Catarina Eira (CESAM and Biology Department of Aveiro University).

The deadline for manuscript submission is March 1st, 2010.

The Iberian lynx is the most endangered feline in the world, being categorized by the IUCN as “critically endangered”. Currently there are only two remnant reproductive populations (Doñana National Park and Natural Parks of Andujár and Cardeña-Montoro), both located in Andalucía (Spain). In recent years the species has been the subject of a considerable amount of conservation initiatives, both in Spain and Portugal, leading to the approval of several conservation documents, habitat and prey recovery projects and ultimately to the success of the captive breeding programme. In the last five years research has been conducted in several aspects of the species biology and ecology in areas such as habitat selection, population dynamics, reproduction, dispersal, social organization, genetics, pathologies, and ethology. This considerable amount of information is crucial for the achievement of the conservation goals established for the species, which culminate in the full recovery of former populations. Therefore it is of the utmost importance to make the information available to all researchers (and other interested audiences) thus promoting conservation based on scientific knowledge on the species and also on its habitats and preys.

Scope: From Scientific Knowledge to Practical Applications

We would like to capture and illustrate the state-of-the art in Iberian lynx scientific research. We welcome papers that relate to one or more of the following themes:

• Population dynamics;


• Space use and habitat selection;


• Social organization;


• Behaviour;


• Diseases;


• Genetics;


• Ex-situ conservation;


• Habitat evaluation for reintroduction;


• Experimental translocations;


• Rabbit ecology.

Submission and Peer Review

• Papers should follow the WBP guidelines for authors. Papers will be peer reviewed using the double blind review rules (see further information of the WBP web page:http://socpvs.org/journals/index.php/wbp/about/submissions);

• Papers must be previously unpublished and not submitted for publication elsewhere.
